Four New Year’s Resolutions for Job Seekers in the AEC and MEP Industries
From all of us at Diamond Peak Recruiting, we hope you had a happy new year. As 2021 ramps up, we wanted to highlight some new year’s resolutions for job seekers and candidates to keep in mind as we enter a new year. Be sure to follow these tips and have a good year everybody!
Update your LinkedIn profile
Maintaining an updated LinkedIn profile is key for any professional and doubly so if you are currently on the market for a new position. Your LinkedIn profile can, and should, be much more than a copy and paste of your resume. It allows you to go super in-depth with your positions, accomplishments, skillsets, and awards. Beyond that, the nature of LinkedIn allows you to highlight professional thoughts and articles on your industry. Additionally, it allows recruiters like us to find you easily and stand out in a crowded marketplace.
You should also maintain an updated resume, so if you are a good fit for the role, we can get you in front of the hiring manager that same day. Do not underestimate the importance of a quick turn around time from reviewing your resume, to initial phone conversation, to interview with the company.
Have a dedicated home office
In today’s day and age, it is especially important to have a dedicated workspace at your house. If you do not already have one, then create one. Even if you do not have a dedicated room, you should still create a space that is exclusively for work during working hours. Do not work from your bed. Do not work from the couch. Clear off the kitchen table or a counter and be sure to avoid distractions. It will make you more productive and feel like you’re in an office.
Update your interviewing skillset
Do some independent research on interviewing skills. Go to Google, go to YouTube. There is no shortage of online resources with tips for interviewing. In today’s market, there is more competition, so you are going to have to do whatever you need to do to differentiate yourself in this marketplace from the competition. Being a polished interviewee will be on of the biggest things that stands out to employers.

Do not settle, find your dream job
Life is too short to do something that you do not like doing, so find a job that you absolutely love, and find a group of people that you absolutely love working with. There is truly a job and company for everybody out there. Do not underestimate the importance of working in a job that you love and with people who feel much more than co-workers. It can make you happier in the workplace, which goes a long way in increasing productivity.
